About the Department of Seed Science and Technology

Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 17/02/2012 and numbered 2012/2852. In our country, the Seed Science and Technology Undergraduate Department was established for the first time in our university in 2013 under the umbrella of the Faculty of Agriculture. In our department, tissue culture, secondary metabolite production, synthetic seed, micropropagation, examination and production of plant natural compounds, plant biochemistry, plant physiology, investigation of physical and mechanical properties of seeds, seed preservation, plant nutrition, soil fertility, fertilization, soil analysis, soil pollution, etc. It has the capacity and equipment to carry out joint studies with many disciplines to solve crop production problems in areas. Our graduates will be able to find job opportunities in various universities and research centers, units affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and companies producing seeds and seedlings.

In addition to the significant increase in the use and production of certified and high-quality seeds in our country, the determination of registered varieties and the introduction of new and superior plant varieties through various R&D studies in terms of both yield and quality are among the issues of strategic importance in agricultural production. This understanding is at the core of the founding principle of our department's undergraduate program. Turkey cooperates with private and state institutions and organizations, especially our farmers, in order to renew the legislation in the seed sector and to ensure that domestic seed resources have commercial importance in this context. In this context, it provides guidance to its stakeholders by disciplining plant production and marketing, handling R&D activities for variety breeding from a wide range of agricultural products of high strategic importance through national and international cooperation and projects, and also bringing to the fore innovations in the preservation, storage and soil reclamation of targeted agricultural products. has an understanding.

We think that our undergraduate program is extremely important in determining the future of national agriculture in terms of the seed sector. The Department of Seed Science and Technology, which combines the departments of agricultural faculties specialized in fields such as field, garden, soil and plant protection, almost under one roof, reinforces its mission of training expert Agricultural Engineers with both infrastructure, applied field, garden, greenhouse, laboratory studies and technical visits. Our department owes its efforts to raising young and dynamic individuals who are self-confident, have initiative, understand the importance of soil and water, and follow the developments in the world and agriculture in building the agriculture of the future.
